Stream Fan News sat in on a Selena Gomez Q&A opening up about her most recent break from Hollywood that included staying away from electronics for three months.
The 24-year-old songstress flatly stated, “I recently took 90 days off.” She also mentioned that during this time she didn’t have her cellphone which became the most “refreshing, calming and rejuvenating feeling.” Gomez continued that she now rarely picks up her phone and has limited not only the amount of people that will have access to her; she also pared down the amount of access as well. Gomez mentioned that the last time she felt burnt out was right before she started her hiatus from electronics.
SFN located the statement she released this past August, where she stated that she was “taking time off to cope with anxiety, panic attacks and depression” due to lupus. She wanted to be proactive with everything which included focusing on “maintaining her health and happiness” which meant staying away from certain things.
Gomez did share a quote with SFN that gives her strength through the tough times: “You are not what happened to you; you are what you chose to become after what happened.”
The former Disney star made her first appearance post-rehab at the 2016 American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20th. She received an award for Favorite Pop/Rock Artist then became emotional to the audience over her past struggles. She told the crowd that she had to “stop because she had everything but was broken inside.” She kept things together so she wouldn’t let her fans down but by doing so she “kept too much together and let herself down.”
