There are many reasons to love Meryl Streep: Her acting, Love and Dedication to her family, pursuit of education (she earned a masters degree from Yale) but there is one reason that has us adoring her more after we learned her efforts in this area.
After we found out how much she has made a difference we feel she could receive many awards for her contribution in this area: Philanthropy.
So you might ask yourself what is Philanthropy. Philanthropy, is generally the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.
In this case it’s more about Meryl donations and large contributions. Her main donations have been: New York Women in Film and Television, IRIS (a collective of women filmmakers),the Writer’s Lab, Vital Voices Global Partnership, Women’s Refugee Commission, Women for Women International, and Women In Need. She also gave a $1 million grant to Public Theater.
She has supported causes in Abuse, AIDS & HIV, At-Risk/Disadvantaged Youths, Cancer, Children, Creative Arts, Disaster Relief, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights, Hunger, Literacy, Miscellaneous, Poverty, Rape/Sexual Abuse, Slavery and Human Trafficking.
Why does she do it?
Meryl is quoted saying: ““You don’t have to be famous. You just have to make your mother and father proud of you.”
With this in mind it’s no surprise she keeps such an active role helping others.
