Cindy Crawford’s New Media Gig

From Revlon spokesmodel to kitchen renovation is how Cindy Crawford’s life in the public eye has progressed. Crawford, now 50, has become the newest face of Silestone quartz surfaces by Cosentino. She is set to embark in a print campaign being introduced to the public this coming March. If anyone can make countertops sexy it’d be Cindy.

She mentions how she has a “tremendous passion for design” in the most recent press release from the company. She goes on to say that Cosentino materials “bring a distinct element to the fashion ensembles created for our homes.” Crawford showcased her interior design flair in a 2013 issue of Architectural Digest about a pair of Mexican villas that she and her husband, Rande Gerber, and good pal George Clooney built next to each other. Crawford has branched out to other areas as well because she also has a furniture line of products called Cindy Crawford Home, with Rooms to Go.

Of all the countertop choices out there, granite is undoubtedly the most popular at this time, however it’s not as prized by kitchen renovators as it used to. In a new study taken by Houzz, a website and online community concerning interior design and decorating, landscape design, home improvement and architecture. The favorability of granite has taken a dip over the last year with a 41% approval rating. Quartz is a very close second place with 40% and wood slab/butcher block is a hugely distant third at 9%. The survey also discovered that countertops are at the top for individuals undergoing kitchen upgrades with a 95% approval that countertops are the chief kitchen upgrade people strive for.

It’s highly interesting that before becoming a modeling icon, she graduated as a valedictorian from her high school in Illinois and earning an academic scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University. She was only there briefly before moving to NYC in 1986 and signing with the world famous Elite New York modeling agency. From there it was only a matter of time before gracing the top fashion magazines front covers, showing off on runways and making an occasional splash in movies. Formerly married to hunky Richard Gere in the early to mid-nineties, she’s been married to former model Rande Gerber since 1998.

She has also become very active in charities and overall activism, starting with childhood leukemia in honor of her brother Jeff, who passed away at three-years-old from the disease. She’s also been involved with pediatric oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ronald McDonald house charities, the California Wildlife Center and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
